Covid-19 Policy and Procedures

Covid-19 Policy

Objective: To reduce risk to the lowest reasonably practicable level by taking preventative measures.

I may amend this document subject to any changes within the Government recommendations.

General principles

  • I reserve the right to decline work or leave a client session if I feel that I cannot guarantee a safe working environment for myself and/or my client
  • For the safety of my clients, myself and my family, I cannot work in a household:
    • which is isolating because one or more family members have symptoms
    • where an individual has been advised to shield
  • I would strongly prefer not to work in a household where somebody is clinically vulnerable, but has not been asked to shield, for example, the home of anyone over 70, since government advice is that they take particular care to minimise contact with others outside their household. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distancing
  • Only carry out work when I am in good health and not displaying any symptoms, nor have I been in contact with anyone who has had Covid-19 symptoms within the last 7 days
  • I will undertake a risk assessment with clients prior to any visit, to discuss how the work will be carried out to minimise risk for all parties

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Covid-19 needs to be managed through social distancing and hygiene, not use of PPE
  • PPE may protect others when in enclosed spaces if you are infected but have not developed symptoms
  • Face masks are optional but not required by law

Therefore I will only wear gloves or face coverings;

      • where a client particularly requests it OR
      • we are working within 2m of each other, when all people in the space are required to wear a face covering (client to provide their own)

Procedures

Booking in work with clients

In the context of COVID-19, when booking work with clients I will:

  • Carry out consultations via video call as per my normal policy
  • Carry out a risk assessment and take any mitigating actions identified
  • Freshly launder my clothes ahead of each client visit

Face-to-face sessions with clients

In the context of COVID-19, when attending face-to-face sessions I will:

  • Contact my client the day before our appointment to confirm that there has been no change to the client’s or my health. Where symptoms or additional risk is identified, we will postpone our appointment to a mutually agreeable date
  • Avoid travelling by any form of public transport
  • Take my own food and drink to households and have breaks outside where possible
  • Increase the frequency of surface cleaning (I will provide antibacterial wipes and request clients to use cleaning products of their choice) to reduce the risk of passing infection on to other people
  • Increase the frequency of hand-washing for 20 seconds using soap and hot water (client to provide soap and a clean towel; I will provide hand sanitiser)
  • Pay particular attention to coughing, sneezing and nose-blowing hygiene, such as covering my nose and mouth, disposing of single-use tissues (I will provide disposable tissues) and increased hand washing
  • Keep 2m apart from any other people in the home wherever possible (the length of a bed or two park benches!)
  • If my client and I need to be in the same room/ within 2 metres, use a face covering and use back-to-back or side-to-side working (rather than face-to-face) whenever possible
  • Leave all waste/ recycling with my client so as to avoid potential transmission of infection

Risk Assessment
